5 Bad Habits that can Destroy Your Life

Break Bad Habits

Hello everyone I have good news and I have bad news. The bad news is that you clicked on this article shows that you have probably become prey to toxic habits that might be sabotaging your life if left unchecked.

But the good news is it’s never too late to break a bad habit that is destroying your life and instead learn a new one that makes it better.

Now, the first thing you need to understand is that you can’t get rid of these bad habits overnight. In one of my favorite books, Atomic Habits, author James Clear says that habits add up like compound interest.

They may result in something positive, such as the accomplishment of a goal, or they may result in a lifetime of missed chances and negative feelings. That’s why when you do these toxic habits day after day, they will ultimately add up to some truly bad outcomes that will undermine your happiness and success.

It’s not just about a one-time event, it’s all about the repetition of a behavior. Therefore, it makes sense that in order to reverse the course you have made the opposite positive action a habit so that it can stack up to a positive result with time and repetition.

So, without further ado let’s start exploring what these bad habits are

1. Unhealthy Lifestyle

In a race against time and fulfilling our commitments, there are certain things we tend to overlook. The first amongst the things that take a backseat is our health. And to be honest, messing up with health is not a great idea. We frequently adopt lifestyle practices without realizing they are harming us more.

Getting inadequate sleep, irregular meal timings, not exercising enough, surviving on junk food, substance abuse, etc are some unhealthy lifestyle habits that can have a long-term negative impact on your health and quality of life.

According to WHO, 60% of related factors to individual health and quality of life are correlated to lifestyle.

In simple words, a person’s lifestyle has a big impact on their physical and mental health.

Therefore, start incorporating a healthy lifestyle into your life because Health is Wealth.

2. Mindless Scrolling

Undoubtedly, one of the most popular activities on smartphones and tablets is scrolling through feeds.

Numerous services, like Facebook, Instagram, Reddit, TikTok, and others, rely on it to flourish. But is all of this mindless scrolling adding anything to your life?

According to a Penn State University study, the fear of losing out frequently causes mindless scrolling. Mindless scrolling can have negative effects on one’s mental health.

In another study from the Cleveland Clinic, mindless scrolling can make depression and anxiety worse due to feeling left out of invites or parties that someone may have posted about.

Mindless scrolling is far more similar to addiction than most people would want to admit.

So what’s the trick to using social media without all the mindless scrolling?

The intention is the key thing to keep in mind. You just need to know what you’re doing. The next time you reach your finger to your social media app of choice, ask yourself why?

3. Procrastination

It does not matter how intelligent and smart you are, procrastinating can destroy your life.

Procrastination strikes everyone, and once you succumb to it, it may be quite hard to break free. But habitual procrastination does real damage to your long-term happiness. By procrastinating, you are losing precious time and energy that you could be using to pursue your goals and dreams.

The reason we procrastinate varies from person to person and is not always obvious. Sometimes we just don’t want to do something because it doesn’t motivate us, or it might be a buried fear that we don’t want to face.

Whatever the reason may be, if you know you are a procrastinator, you should be careful, as it can destroy not only your productivity but your life.

Although the consequences of procrastination may not initially appear all that severe, they can accumulate over time and cause worry, anxiety, dashed dreams, and low self-esteem.

All I can say is to develop time management skills to help you cope with procrastination as it arises rather than allowing it to take control.

4. Chasing Girl/Boy instead of Goal

If you are anywhere between the ages of 16 to 29, following your life goals or building your career should be your first priority, not Boys or Girls. But sadly, many people prioritize chasing their dream girl or boy before everything.

I mean be interested in hot Senorita or sexy Papi but if all of your attention is on them, you won’t reach your full potential. You need to understand the fact that the girl/boy you want to impress may or may not be your future. But I am dead sure education and career are your future.

Let’s take an example:

Mohan loves Mahima, He spent all his teens with her, without focusing on his career. So, there comes a time when Mahima gets bored of him and decides to go for some big shot, mature guy.

Where does that leave Mohan?

In a space where he can’t undo what is already done. He has no job, love failure, and many more problems. He ends up in depression.

Dear Friends, all I am saying is chasing your goals should be your ultimate priority.

Because life is bigger when you chase a better dream. Chasing an impossible milestone is better than chasing girls or boys.

5. Caring About What Other People Think

I have some good news for you if you have a poor habit of worrying about what other people think of you:

Nobody is spending their time and energy worrying about you. If they even observed what you did in front of them, nobody is going to remember it at all.

Nobody is observing your appearance or hairstyle. People are so preoccupied with themselves, that they are too busy or exhausted to give much regard to yours.

When you are more focused on other people’s opinions than your own, that’s when caring about what they think of you becomes a serious problem. All of us are unique.

What is proper for you can only be determined by you. You will experience so much more freedom in life if you stop worrying about what other people think of you.

Don’t sweat if you have any of the above habits mentioned in the article. Habits can be broken if you believe in yourself and have the courage to take control of your life.
