The $15 million that Johnny Depp got was $10 million for his losses and $5 million for his suffering.
However, that $5 million was lowered under Virginia’s legal limit to $350,000. The $2 million that Amber Heard got was only for her losses.
The maker of Netflix’s “Depp v. Heard” was aware that by revisiting the trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, her new work would spark a lot of reactions online.
After all, the six-week libel case between one of the most famous stars in the world and his former wife who was gaining fame was broadcast live with viewers from all over the world watching shocking testimonies, including from both actors who accused each other of domestic abuse.
In the end, the jury sided with Depp and ordered Heard to pay him $10 million in compensation, and they finally ended their long legal fight for $1 million.
Considering the high-profile and divisive nature of her documentary’s topic, Cooper was not completely shocked that Team Johnny and Team Amber commenters had problems with the mere existence of the documentary.
“You know, it’s a balanced amount of hate,” Cooper says with a laugh. “I pride myself that it tends to be very 50/50,” she says, referring to fans and critics of both Depp and Heard.
Where is Amber Heard after the trial?
The only public news about Amber Heard since the libel trial has been about her role in Aquaman the Lost Kingdom.
The actress said that she “fought really hard” to keep her role in the sequel, but that despite being a main character with Jason Momoa in the first Aquaman, her role was “reduced” in The Lost Kingdom because of the controversy around Depp’s lawsuit.
As for her location, the actress is currently living a life away from the public eye. Heard has a daughter named Oonagh Paige. People reported that she left the US because she felt there was “too much chaos” in the country.
She initially moved to the desert town of Yucca Valley, a few months after the trial. The actress then sold her house for USD 1.1 million and moved to Europe. Amber now lives with her daughter in Madrid.
The actress was seen several times in Spain, such as buying books at a local fair, before she apparently confirmed her new home while talking to Spanish reporters last June.
“Amber, how is your new life here in Madrid?” the cameraman asked Heard in the video.
She answered in Spanish: “I love Spain, so much.”
When asked if she plans on staying in Madrid, Heard said: “Yes, I hope so. Yes, yes, I love living here.”
